Fall Winter 2010/2011 at the New York Fashion Week

Fall/Winter 2010-2011 Fashion Trends

As summer is almost over, every girl is eager to find out the next fall/winter 2010-2011 fashion trends. Military, '50s and '70s, minimalist, and androgynous are some of the styles that better characterize this season's trends, reflecting the woman wearing them through versatility and pragmatism.

When talking about fall/winter 2010-2011 fashion trends, practicality, versatility, and moderation are the best words that one can use in order to describe them. It's all about wearable items and tempered colors. As for the main approaches, there are a few that really stand out, such as the military style, the '50s and the '70s style, or the masculine look. Here are the main fashion trends for fall/winter 2010-2011.
The military style for fall/winter 2010-2011 means, first of all, chic. And if there is one basic piece to keep in mind and in which you should invest, that is the aviator jacket, made from leather or shearling, and inspired by the aviators from the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. Military coats, the aviator jacket, golden buttons, emphasized shoulders, kasatchok pants and boots, khaki and green are some of the main elements of the military style seen on the catwalks at Burberry Prorsum, MaxMara, Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Dries Van Noten, and Etro.

'50s Style. It is said that fashion keeps reinventing itself like a cyclic, perpetual motion. There are certain elements inspired from the '50s that came back in today's fashion trends. For fall/winter 2010-2011, we can see a retro touch that has been used by fashion designers in their collections. Midi skirts and dresses, below the knee, A-line skirts, emphasized waist, long gloves, square-toed, block-heeled pumps trimmed with flat bows, and the doctor's bag are the basic elements specific to the '50s that were spotted at Louis Vuitton or Marc Jacobs. Also, at Prada, one can see the '50s dresses in a fantastic combination of colors, while at Alexander Wang, the disco approach can be observed.
'70s Style. The '70s can be considered as being one of the most chic eras of all times in matters of style and fashion. Flared pants, breezy shirts and blouses, long dresses, and autumnal colors are the main elements reflecting a '70s approach. This type of pants, with a high-waist, look perfect when matched with tucked-in breezy blouses, feminine vests with a boho touch, and ankle boots with wooden heel. For fall/winter 2010-2011, the '70s style was spotted at Chloé, Balmain, Gianfranco Ferré, and Gucci.

Minimalist style is described by simple, yet very chic clothes, with clear lines, without embellishments. The fabrics used are high-quality ones, while the colors are plain, sober ones, such as white, black, gray, beige, and navy blue. Simple, yet very sophisticated lines were spotted at Stella McCartney who presented tailored suits and jackets in an amazing minimalist approach. Also, Phoebe Philo from Céline used special fabrics, emphasizing their beauty and luxury through minimalism, while at Gucci, the mixture between minimalism and over-refined elements had as result a sophisticated collection.
Dandy style represented another important source of inspiration for fashion designers. Large blazers, androgynous shirts, coats and jackets with a masculine touch could be seen on many runway shows. An interesting mixture between masculine and feminine gave birth to unique collections. We could see the masculine style at Dolce&Gabbana with velvet vests and big bows, at Salvatore Ferragamo who gave a subtle note of masculinity to his collection using wide belts and oversized blazers, at Michael Kors, Bottega Veneta, Chloé, DKNY, Yves Saint Laurent or Proenza Shouler.

The best investments for fall/winter 2010-2011 are: a cape made from wool, fur, or tweed, a shearling aviator jacket, a minimalist dress, a military coat, a long skirt, a '50 dress, a pair of flared pants, '70s style. As for the shoes, thigh-high boots and mountain boots are a very smart choice, but also high-heeled moccasins, pointed-toe shoes, and a pair of furry boots. When it comes to accessories, a pair of socks, made of wool and worn with moccasins, a hat, a doctor's bag, furry or knited bags, a belt, and long gloves represent some of the most trendy elements.
                        Fall winter (2009 / 2010)

DKNY Fall Winter 2009/2010 at the New York Fashion Week
The DKNY collection for spring-summer 2009 was based on sport clothing and fluorescent colors. Now, its collection for next autumn-winter (2009 / 2010) changes radically to show us some designs with a very feminine, sober and elegant style. We believe this is a trend that will continue throughout several fashion shows.

The designs of this collection are very slender and tight to the body, with skirts that fall below the knee and short jackets with a style that Victoria Beckham would love (of course, if we see Victoria is buying clothing at DKNY stores, then it will be a clear signal that the crisis is really severe). Also, wide belts are present on this collection, as well as coats with a rounded shape and short sleeves.
The palette of colors is typical of the winter: red tones combined with black, gray and green. Also,  some prints are used: particularly lines, houndstooth prints, and a small dose of animal prints, which were very popular recently.
It seems DKNY has abandoned its “stylistic experiments”, at least for the moment. Maybe due to the tough times we’re in. Instead, the clothing store is playing safe by creating a collection designed to be easy to sell, with classic designs that are always in fashion, targeted to a wide range of women. Now, we have to wait to see this collection available at the stores.

The Symbols of Love in Jewelry

October 21, 2009 by Surfer
Engagements, weddings, and honeymoons, all have one thing in common: Love. To celebrate that love, many people give gifts of jewelry between each other. A genuine diamond engagement ring is a classic example of a devotion to a loved one strong enough to declare a life-time commitment. However, when the deal has been sealed, there’s still many other options to celebrate your love with its symbols in your jewelry choices.

Hearts
A heat is the best symbol for love. It can make great heart-shaped hooped earrings, and classic pendants. You can add a diamond solitaire to make it extra special. Hearts come in many different designs, some with two halves, one half worn by each partner in the couple. Hearts are an easy design element to include in most romantic jewelry pieces.
Diamonds
Diamonds are also symbols of love due to their association with eternal faithfulness. Diamonds can be gifted anytime, not just during an engagement and they work well for men and women. Give a diamond watch to your significant other to show your love. Celebrate an anniversary with diamond jewelry. Pick a fancy-colored pink diamond as a gift on Valentine’s day. She’ll swoon with delight.
Circles
Another symbol of eternity is the circle. It’s never-ending and represents the Divine, in some cases. If you’re experiencing a Divine love, why not celebrate it with an eternity necklace? These are necklaces that sport the circle symbol embedded with diamonds. It’s sure to make your loved one say “oh” too.
Roses
Flowers are always romantic, but roses even more so. Jewelry with rose motifs send a message of love to the recipient and are beautiful to wear too. They can be engraved or embossed roses. They can be a sculpture detail within the jewelry. Either way, roses mean love whether fresh or created by a jeweler.

Islamic Fashion Fair

October 9, 2009 by Surfer
The first ever Islamic Fashion Fair opened its doors at Istanbul Expo Center on Oct. 1. 3,000 foreign professional and 12,000 local visitors from Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Libya, Morocco, Malaysia, Indonesia, the United States, France and Germany have visited the the fashion shows.

One of the most attractive stands at the fair belongs to Haşema Tekstil (Burqini Textile). A burqini is a swimming suit version of the burqa and it is designed to hide the lines of the body. Esra Çelik, who has designed burqinis for nearly 10 years, said: “I don’t wear a burqa or use a scarf to cover my hair, but designing burqinis makes me happy. It is a new field in the textile sector and it enables me to design freely.”
Çelik said there is great interest in burqinis not only from Turkish and Arabic people but also from Muslims living in Europe. The textile company sometimes has a hard time meeting demand.

Çelik said Turkey’s secular society and the western world are biased about the burqa. “I find the arguments really trivial. Let people wear what they want,” she said.
There are also many foreign brands operating stands at the fair. Bob Singal, from Thailand, is one of them. It is his second time in Turkey and he is happy that such a fair could be opened in Istanbul. “Turkey is a modern country that connects East and West. Being a bridge between East and West brings many interesting characters. There are both modern-looking people and there are people who are wearing a burqa. It is a colorful country.”

Branding

August 27, 2009 by Surfer
Branding is the process through which meaning and value are added to product. At its simplest, a brand is a guarantee of authenticity and reparability, a badge of trustworthiness and a promise of performance. Thus, a brands exist as a collection of notions in the consumer’s mind. Branding, however, can actually affect our perception of a product’s physical characteristics and thus positively color our experience of using the product. To this extent, branding is used widely by manufactures as a cost-effective means of adding value to their product. On average, branding is responsible for over 80% of a product’s added value, yet accounts for only approximately20% of its cost. Manufactures establish brand identity by various means, including naming, packaging, advertising and marketing. The idea of “brand personality” is also becoming an ever more important factor in the marketplace, as manufactures attempt to differentiate their products from those of their competitors.
