An Open Letter: Jessica Simpson Brand Shoes

Dear Jessica Simpson/ Jessica Simpson Shoes,

I loved you, I supported you, I cried a little when Newlyweds was over (don't worry, I still have the entire DVD collection.)  I defended you when people called you a dumb blonde (because after all, if you were really dumb, you wouldn't have made yourself a multi-million dollar brand.)  I was even sad when they never released your workout video (how could you have deprived us of the opportunity to get your smokin' "Dukes of Hazzard" body?)

When you announced you were launching a clothing and accessories line, I was loyal to your brand and decided to try out your lovely pumps---the perfect shoe for the office.

I've purchased not one, not two, not three--- but FOUR pairs of heels from your line (oh, and a pair of boots too.)
Why don't I share with you the results of my purchases? Let's take a look
(shield yourself, it's ain't pretty!)

You can't see the damage on these boots---BUT that's because I returned them for a new pair when the back of my left boot ripped about 3 inches at the seam where the ankle is.  Thankfully, Nordstrom has an amazing return/exchange policy and I got a new pair...but I had worn them like 10 times when they ripped like that. Not acceptable.

and finally...........

After all this time, I could have just spent $300 on a pair of shoes that wouldn't look like the Jessica Simpson ones and that I could be enjoying to this day. It makes me so mad that I paid for shoes that never lasted longer than 6 months without ripping.  They even tend to rip in the same place.  I have no idea why I continued to buy from this brand when I saw what was happening to my shoes. The truth is, they are very comfortable (for heels) and that kept sucking me back in---But NO MORE.

I just can't recommend Jessica Simpson brand shoes anymore The proof is in the photos---they just don't last. In fact, I was talking to a colleague about the JS shoes and she mentioned that the last time she was at Dillard's in the shoe department, the guy helping her actually talked her out of getting JS shoes because they were such poor quality and he said "they won't even last you a year." Oh yes, wise Dillard's employee, you were spot on.

Have you had a horrible experience with Jessica Simpson brand shoes?

My co-worker has the exact same black pair as me (the one with the leopard print on the inside) and hers also ripped in the EXACT SAME PLACE!
So I know it's not just my weirdo feet or something that are causing the damage.

Be warned, my friends. Save your money and buy something that will last longer than a year! I've learned my lesson.

Feel free to post links to pretty black pumps that are office-appropriate (no huge platforms) and that are comfy!  I know I can always count on you ladies for recommendations :) I'd love to get a pair of black suede ones.

xoxo,

Veronika.

Weekend Shopping: Boots & Coats

This morning I went and got my hair cut by the lovely Stephanie at Cutloose (click here to read her Motivation Mondays piece!)

She did such a wonderful job and my hair feels lighter and so much better than before. You sometimes don't realize how "heavy" your hair gets when you're growing it out. My layers needed some major length chopped off. I think the cut brings out the color so much better too:

Today I bought BOOTS!!!  and a COAT!!!  Candice and I visited Nordstrom and pulled a bunch of boots to try on.  Of course I didn't find flat boots today. But I did get a pair of heeled boots, which is something I really needed to add to my collection (because um, all I have is one pair of UGGS- two suitcases people!, two suitcases!).  I plan to bring these to Paris and just wear them out for dinner and stuff, not for heavy walking.

The boots are by Jessica Simpson.  I was surprised because I had no idea what brand they were until I made the decision to purchase them. I really love them. The color and fit are just perfect! You can buy them here.

I also love the coat I got from Zara. It was quite pricey at about $169 but I saw the same prices at Macy's and other stores for wool coats. I actually tried Macy's first and they didn't have any coats I really loved, which surprised me.  I just thought this one from Zara has such a flattering fit and is the perfect length for my tall body.  I also tried it on with a few belts and love the look!

I am still on the hunt for flat boots. I tried the popular Steve Madden "Intyce" boots on, but the foot part just didn't look right on me.  When you have bigger feet (I wear a 10) it's harder to find flat boots that don't look huge.  So I'm still on the lookout! I don't want to spend a ton on them.

Paris is feeling so much more real now that I'm actually buying stuff to take there!  We are so excited :)

xoxo,

Veronika.

PS- let me know if you did any weekend shopping!

OOTD: The Black Dress With a Twist

Good evening ladies!  I hope everyone had a great day today.  I had an incredible and inspiring day.  I will talk about this more in a separate post because it really deserves its own post. I am working on an event right now with children who are cancer survivors and they and their families have really made me see life in a new perspective. They are so strong, brave, positive and inspirational. Like I said, I will share more in another entry once the event is over, but I feel so amazing right now just from getting to know these families and feel their positive energies and spirits.

Today I wore a new dress today that I got at Palais Royal. I honestly hadn't shopped there before last week. I was at the Beauty Bar event with Napoleon Perdis and decided to check out the clothes once I had finished my interview.  I was surprised to find this cute black dress on sale for $39.99.  I also got an additional 30% off of that price so it came to $30.02.  It originally retailed for $74. It feels and fits great. I am really happy with it!

Have you ever shopped at a store you initially wrote off and then discovered they actually had some really cute stuff? Please comment and let me know!

Celeb Makeup Artist Napoleon Perdis Did My Makeup & Several OOTD's

Happy Friday lovely readers! As many of you have seen by now, my new template is up! I am so excited about my blog's new look! Thanks to everyone who took the time to comment here and on formspring and also to those who emailed me about the new look! You ladies made my day *big smiles!*

I just got back from an awesome Pilates class and had a healthy dinner from Zoe's Kitchen so I'm feeling great!  I love working out on Friday evenings. It gets me even more pumped for the weekend and it's a nice way to unwind after a long week.

I have a lot of catching up to do this week so I'll try to make this post a long one.  I had the opportunity to meet and have my makeup done by celebrity makeup artist Napoleon Perdis on Thursday!  What a fun experience :)  Palais Royal in Cinco Ranch was launching their new "Beauty Bar" featuring Napoleon's new makeup line NP Set, and many others and he made an appearance in the store. Some of the other lines included Crabtree & Evelyn, Juice Organics, Kiss My Face, Burt's Bees, Emani Minerals and Bremenn.

I interviewed Mr. Perdis about beauty tips and tricks and you can read that article when it's published on CultureMap.  I will be sure to post the link when it's up!  In the meantime, here are some photos from the event:

Napoleon did my makeup over my existing makeup but I think it looks great! He did everything so quickly I was amazed!  I don't have someone else do my makeup very often and when I feel all of the brushes all over my face I always convince myself that I will look in the mirror and be horrified...but in talented and quick hands, that couldn't be further from the truth!

I must admit it felt really exciting to have my makeup done by someone who's done makeup for Hilary Duff, Leighton Meester, Evangeline Lily and many other celebs! You can buy his new line, NP Set at select Palais Royal stores and online on the NP Set website. The products retail from about $12.95 to $32.00.  My fave picks were the blush/highlighter duo, the eye liners and the eye shadow trios.

I know I've been slacking on OOTD posts lately...but that's because I never had time to post them individually so I'll post them here all at once.  I was able to do some with the tripod and some days I was in such a rush I just took them in the mirror.  Here we go!
